Year 1

In Year 1, we enjoy working together for excellence and enjoyment of our learning. We try our best in all that we do and aim to rise to any challenges or learning opportunities with a positive attitude and growth mind-set.

Our CLJ theme in Year 1 for the autumn term is ‘Cottages and Castles’. This involves considering the Victorian way of life, learning about materials and their properties and exploring abstract art by Paul Klee.  In spring our CLJ theme is ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’, which will enable us to explore a variety of omnivores, herbivores and carnivores whilst also understanding human and physical geography within the UK and a contrasting non-European country. The Enchanted Woodland is our summer term CLJ theme which will allow us to learn about deciduous and evergreen trees, looking at seasonal and daily weather patterns and making comparisons with Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.

We really do enjoy phonics in Year 1 and knowing our sounds is helping our reading and writing get better and better! We change our reading books after reading records have been signed by an adult.

In Year 1, we also love maths and make sure we know our number bonds to 10 off by heart. We also aim to learn our 2x, 5x and 10x tables by the end of the year.
