Year 3 Class Page

Welcome to Year 3!   We are always very busy in Year 3…

In our Numeracy lessons, we follow Inspire Maths. The scheme of work encourages the children to understand all aspects of maths in greater depth by using manipulatives and having examples given to them in many different ways. We cover the following units: counting, partitioning and calculating; securing number facts; understanding shape; handling data and measures; calculating and understanding shape over the course of the year.

In our Literacy lessons, we cover a range of reading and writing, based on the following: stories with historical settings; information texts - related to our themes; fictional story writing; recounts and poetry. These sessions are supported by independent guided reading activities.

In Year 3, the children work on the Creative Learning Journey - which encompasses all the foundation subjects whilst linking to our core subjects.  Our theme for the Autumn term is ‘EXCITING EGYPTIANS’, in the Spring Term we learn about ‘Music - A Cultural Revolution’ and in the Summer Term our theme is ‘An Encyclopaedia of Sport’.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Emotional) is a very important part of our Year 3 development and learning.  Each week, we reflect upon current affairs through different media sources and follow up each session with a more thought-provoking discussion. Ultimately, the aim of these sessions is to develop a wider understanding of the world and how to be successful within it.

Each week, we do 2 hours of high-quality P.E.  This year, our timetables includes the following sports:

Dance, rounders, multi-sports, football, tennis, golf, athletics, gymnastics, swimming, cricket and netball.

In Year 3, we are a happy, hardworking, resilient and determined team who have a hunger for learning and ambition, with a growth mind-set to succeed.
